Somme people...

We've decided to start a Battle of the Somme re-enactment society, based in the site of the old patio.

After a couple of hours mucking about with buckets and OSB, trying to make the trenches safe with shuttering, our gallant building crew (but sadly not including Rusty the digger man, who had a previous commitment elsewhere today) gave up and went home, following a near miss in which young Ewan became partially submerged in mud.  We never intended to risk to life and limb, after all.  And we aren't on a very strict timescale either, so no worries.  Apparently when Rusty returns, it will all be much better.

Pity really, it's a lovely day...

  1. Utterly wonderful, as always. When we had our extension done shortly after moving in here the subsequently wonderful Keith the builder appeared with his merry men and dug a trench about two feet wide and six feet deep, forming three sides of a rectangle outside the front door (the fourth side being provided by the wall of the house). They then disappeared while the heavens opened and the new moat filled with water, pretty much to the top. Our crossing point, as left by them was one single scaffold plank. Words were spoken, especially when it was explained that they would have to left the water soak away before they could do anything else. We got a wider scaffold plank.

  2. Awww, thanks "Unknown"! Of course, I know it's you, Al. I recognised the family writing style right away. Easy really, isn't it?
